Dodgers to part with six-time All-Star as they welcome Shohei Ohtani to the team

Shohei Ohtani's decision brings positive news for the Los Angeles Dodgers but spells disappointment for a key player from last year's team.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, J.D. Martinez now faces the task of securing a new team following Ohtani's choice to join the Dodgers.

Heyman suggests that Martinez might consider his now-former team, the Los Angeles Angels, as a potential destination. Other possibilities include the Seattle Mariners, New York Mets, and Arizona Diamondbacks.

Martinez, aged 36, functions as a full-time designated hitter, making it an expected outcome if Ohtani opted for the Dodgers. Despite this, Martinez has proven himself valuable, boasting a .271 batting average with 33 home runs and 103 RBIs last season, earning him his sixth All-Star selection. It's worth noting that he played only 113 games due to injury.

As a former World Series champion and three-time Silver Slugger winner, Martinez is likely to find a new home in the upcoming offseason.

Losing a position to Shohei Ohtani is an honorable exit, especially considering the substantial financial investment the Dodgers have made in their new designated hitter.
