Alex Cora in line for record contract after 2024?

As the Boston Red Sox manager, Alex Cora might set a new standard for managerial contracts in the upcoming season, given that he's approaching the final year of his existing agreement.

According to a report from USA Today by Bob Nightengale on Sunday, multiple teams have already shown considerable interest in signing Cora once his current contract concludes. Nightengale suggests that due to this heightened interest, Cora could potentially secure a contract surpassing the record-breaking five-year, $40 million deal that Craig Counsell received from the Chicago Cubs earlier in the offseason.

Cora is widely recognized across the league as one of the top managers in the game. His accomplishments include leading the Red Sox to a World Series victory in 2018. Despite being dismissed over his involvement in the Houston Astros' 2017 cheating scandal, the Red Sox re-hired him a year later, underscoring their confidence in his managerial abilities.

While other teams are expressing interest in Cora, it's important to note that the Red Sox may still retain him with a lucrative contract. Speculation even circulated that they might hand over their baseball operations to him during this offseason, although that scenario did not come to fruition.
