Dodgers and Rays agree to Tyler Glasnow trade on one condition

The Los Angeles Dodgers appear to be gearing up for another major move this offseason. As per a report by ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Dodgers and the Tampa Bay Rays have reached an agreement on a trade involving starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow and outfielder Manuel Margot heading to the Dodgers. In return, the Dodgers are sending right-handed pitcher Ryan Pepiot and outfield prospect Johnny Deluca to the Rays.

However, this trade hinges entirely on the Dodgers' ability to secure a contract extension with Glasnow. According to Passan, the extension window opened on Thursday morning, and the Dodgers are optimistic about finalizing a deal with Glasnow by Friday.

The potential signing of Glasnow could significantly bolster the Dodgers' pitching rotation. When in good health, Glasnow stands out as one of the most dominant right-handed starting pitchers in baseball, boasting Cy Young caliber talent. Throughout his career, he has maintained a 3.89 ERA, with a particularly impressive 3.20 ERA during his six seasons with the Rays.

Despite his on-field prowess, Glasnow has been consistently hampered by injuries, participating in only 127 games and starting 88 over his eight-year career. Nevertheless, teams have been willing to overlook this injury history, recognizing him as one of the most coveted pitchers in this offseason's market.

This potential acquisition follows the Dodgers' earlier major move of signing superstar Shohei Ohtani to a record-breaking 10-year, $700 million contract. Although Ohtani is expected to miss the 2024 season due to offseason elbow surgery, his addition will bring another elite bat to a lineup already featuring stars like Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman.

With these significant offseason additions, the Dodgers, already considered one of the best teams in baseball, are poised to become the front-runners for the National League title. Anything less than an appearance in the NLCS would likely be viewed as a substantial disappointment for the team.
